Iwafune’s Red Car

For many years, a red car from the 1970s sat on a cliff in Iwafune, Tochigi Prefecture. No one knew how it got there, as there were no roads nearby. The car was hard to see in the summer because of all the plants around it. But in the winter, people could see the bright red car from far away. This made some people want to go see it up close.

When people finally reached the car, they found an old Isuzu Gemini from the 1970s. The inside was dusty, but the car was in pretty good shape. There were no license plates on it. Some people think it might have been used by workers at a nearby quarry.

The car on the cliff became quite famous. People loved to guess how it ended up there. But after being there for more than 25 years, the car was finally taken away in 2022. A TV show talked to a lawyer and found out it was okay to move the car. They used big machines to pull the car off the cliff and take it away. This cost a lot of money – about 800,000 yen. Even though the mystery car is gone now, people will remember it for a long time.Copy
