Nature has quietly taken over the Okami School. In one room, ivy pours in through the tall windows and spreads across the floor, climbing over the walls and the fallen ceiling. In the middle of it all stands a lone upright piano, still upright, as if it is waiting for someone to sit down and play one last song.
Abandoned schools are some of the most moving haikyo in Japan. The countryside emptied out, the children grew up and left, and there simply weren’t enough of them anymore to keep the doors open. What’s left is this green, silent classroom, half building and half forest, beautiful and a little heartbreaking at the same time.
