Ibaraki Hospital

Ibaraki Higashi Hospital (茨城東病院) is one of the rare “modern but wooden” hospitals that hasn’t been demolished yet. It was built largely of wood at a time when most facilities of its scale had already switched to concrete. That is exactly what makes it precious now: wooden hospitals rot, burn or get flattened quickly, so almost none of them survive long enough to become haikyo.

Inside, the long corridors and empty wards have a softness that only wood gives a ruin. No brutal concrete shell here, just pale paint, window frames and floorboards slowly letting the light and the damp do their work. Its future is the same as every wooden ruin’s: one storm, one fire, or one excavator away from disappearing for good.
