Nichitsu Ghost Town is a large abandoned mining village in Saitama. Inside its grounds you’ll find apartments, a post office, a town hall, a school and a hospital, a whole little community that once lived off the mine. When the work dried up, the people moved out and never came back, and the forest has been quietly taking the place back ever since. It is one of the biggest abandoned villages in the country, and I featured it as #71 in my book Nippon No Haikyo.
